On the following pages are lesson plans that can be used to support the development of emotional intelligence in your program planning. The lesson plans are intended to be an optional resource that you may adapt for use in your classroom. The worksheets at the bottom of each lesson plan are part of the required coursework (not optional).

Materials:
- A favorite children’s book
- Post-it notes
- Marker
Procedure:
- Read a classroom favorite book to your class. On each page (or as many as possible) challenge children to identify emotions in the characters in the book.
- Write the name of the emotion on the post-it and put it in the book.
- When you read the book next time, point out and discuss those identified emotions and ask children to act them out!
Assessment:
- Observe and record children’s ability to understand and identify the emotions of the characters.
